Barry Austin Cycling — Athlete Tools. Last updated: 9 August 2026
These tools are a small set of private, read-only training analysis pages I build for the athletes I coach. This page explains exactly what they read, where it goes and how to stop it. It is deliberately short, because the tools do very little with your data.
Who runs this
Barry Austin, Barry Austin Cycling, Cape Town, South Africa. I am the only person who operates these tools. Contact: barry.austin@me.com
What is read from Intervals.icu
With your permission, the tools read the following from your Intervals.icu account:
-
Activities — your rides and their summary figures.
-
Activity streams — the second-by-second traces within a ride, such as power, heart rate, speed, cadence, altitude and position.
-
Athlete profile — your name, ID and training settings such as FTP, W' and zones.
-
Wellness — where you record it.
Nothing is ever written back. The tools cannot create, edit or delete anything in your Intervals.icu account, and they do not touch your calendar, plans, chats or library.
Where your data goes
Your ride data is requested by your own browser, directly from Intervals.icu, and used to draw the page in front of you. It is not copied to a database, not stored on my servers, and not retained after you close the page.
I do not see your ride data through these tools. Where I review your training, I do so as your coach inside Intervals.icu itself, using the access you have given me there — that is a separate arrangement from this app.
Your Intervals.icu credentials
If you set the tools up by pasting your API key, that key is stored in your browser's local storage on that device only. It is never transmitted to me or to any third party. Clearing your browser data, or using the reset control in the dashboard, removes it.
If you set the tools up by pressing Connect Intervals.icu, Intervals.icu issues an access token after you approve the specific permissions shown on their screen. That token is held only to make the read requests described above, is never shared, and grants no more than the scopes you approved.
Access logging
These tools sit behind a private link. When a page is opened, my server records the time, the page requested, the identifier in your personal link, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string. This exists so I can see that a link is working, spot a link being shared beyond the athlete it was issued to, and fix problems. It contains no ride data. Logs are kept for operational purposes only and are not used for profiling or advertising.
Other services involved
-
Intervals.icu — the source of your training data, under their own privacy policy.
-
Cloudflare — hosts and serves these pages.
-
Open-Meteo — some tools look up historical or forecast weather. To do that, the coordinates and date of a ride or a planned route are sent to Open-Meteo. No name, account or identifier goes with it.
-
ArcGIS map tiles — where a tool draws a map, background imagery is requested from ArcGIS for the area shown.
There is no analytics package, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no third-party cookies. Your data is never sold, rented or shared for marketing.
Withdrawing access
You can stop the tools reading your account at any time, and you don't need to ask me first:
-
If you pasted an API key — regenerate it in Intervals.icu under Settings, Developer Settings, which instantly invalidates the old one. Clearing your browser data also removes the copy on your device.
-
If you used Connect — revoke the app from your Intervals.icu account, and the token stops working immediately.
-
Either way, you can email me and I'll disable your link.
Children
Where I coach a rider under 18, setup and consent are handled with a parent or guardian.
Changes
If what the tools read ever changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Anything that would require broader access to your account would need your approval again through Intervals.icu.
